KEF colours

Keflavík Airport serves as Iceland’s central hub, connecting the country to destinations worldwide. To connect our origins and roots with the world, we draw inspiration from Iceland’s characteristic colours — the hues of our flag that represent fire and ice, sky and ocean. The design is distinctly Icelandic, complemented by black and a warm golden earthy tone that reflect the first-class service we offer.

The colour spectrum

The names of the colours are inspired by Iceland’s aviation history, specifically the names of airplanes that marked significant milestones in international aviation.

The predominant colour scheme in KEF’s appearance includes Leifur (black), Hrímfaxi (white), and Geysir (blue). Gullfaxi (golden), Hekla (red), and Gljáfaxi (green) are reserved for special occasions, such as signalling the need for immediate attention or for use in ceremonial materials.

Colour tones

Each colour has a gradient range of strength, from light to dark tones, that can be used alongside the original colour. This gradient can be utilised in illustrations to add depth with varying shades, in bar charts and graphs to represent different value ranges, or to distinguish between different topics.

Gradients

Gradients can be valuable for various occasions, such as background colours for chapter slides or highlighting key sentences. They evoke images of the hemisphere, aurora borealis, and clouds. The soothing texture and softness of gradients provide a calming escape from the business environment to a safe haven.
